Dr. Trini Mathew has a dual role of infectious diseases physician and hospital epidemiologist.

After earning her medical degree with honors from the Tver State Medical Academy in Tver, Russia, Mathew completed her residency training and chief residency in internal medicine at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. She completed a clinical fellowship in infectious diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and pursued research on tuberculosis and alcohol use disorders in the Division of Social Medicine and Health Inequalities at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both in Boston. She has a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health and also served as an instructor at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. Prior to joining the UConn Health Center, Dr. Mathew was at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she was an assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Mathew’s particular areas of interest include HIV, tuberculosis, alcohol use disorders, and infections in the immunocompromised. She sees patients at the International Traveler’s Medical Service.
